Membership

The Scout group rely on subscription fees to cover the costs incurred from running the group. All the leaders and committee members give their time freely, so all monies go to running the group. These include insurance of our stored equipment, rent for hall hire and as well as the weekly activities carried out by the group.

Fees

Fees are reviewed annually at the AGM (Annual General Meeting) and currently stand at £30 per scout per term, with a £10 joining fee for new scouts.

The joining fee covers the cost of a knecker and group badges, which a Scout will wear throughout their journey through the sections of the group. Please ensure all kneckers (and uniform) are named to ensure your Scout keeps hold of theirs.

Scouts who expect to attend the full year are asked to pay memberships in full at the beginning of the year to reduce administration. Those joining mid year will only be expected to pay for remaining terms.

Refunds

We are all aware of how children’s circumstances can change therefore if a scout needs to leave after paying a full years fees, then a refund will be organised.

A large part of the subscription payment goes towards the district, county and national groups to cover insurance for your child and maintain the support we receive from them. The amount is determined by the number of scouts that are registered with the group in January of that scouting year, therefore if a scout leaves after January we will need to retain the national sub fee (currently £46) from any refund.

Siblings

We currently offer a 25% discount for siblings who want to be part of the group too.

Again the national sub retainer applies.

Every little helps

The leaders and committee do the best to ensure subs are kept to a minimum and you can help with this. By completing a gift aid declaration form, enables us to claim back 25% from the government, currently this equates to £22.50 on annual subs which from three full troops can contribute massively in reducing the overall fee. A gift aid form can be downloaded here or please enquire with any of the leaders or committee members.

The group also look to hold fundraisers throughout the year, by supporting these events by either volunteering, contributing or spending then this will also assist in keeping subs low. Please check out  the fundraising page.

And finally no child should miss out on the chance of being part of the scout community, therefore if you feel the membership would create a barrier for your child joining then please get in contact and alternative arrangements can be made.
